ABOUT LAUREN:
I am a package design engineer working for Procter & Gamble, the largest consumer products manufacturer in the world. At work I have the opportunity to design packages for everything from Tide detergent to Secret deodorant, and Covergirl make-up to Herbal Essences shampoo. It's a great way to combine my technical background with my creativity. Although I went to school to study mechanical engineering, I never lost my love for all things crafty, creative, inventive, and fun!
I've always been a purse girl. Some women have hundreds of pairs of shoes, or dozens of scarves, or jewelry boxes full of necklaces. I have a closet full of purses. A few years back I made my first purse from a pattern I purchased at a local quilt shop. It turned out so cute that I decided to make another for my college roommate with fabrics and details that related to her sorority. She loved it! Every time she carried the purse she would come home with stories about all the compliments she received. I realized how rewarding and inspiring making bags and purses really can be. As I was finishing college I drifted away from my sewing, concentrating more on school, but about a year ago I decided to pick up purse making again. I bought a couple books with patterns, picked out some fun fabrics and began creating. After I had a few bags under my belt I began to see ways that I could modify the bags to make them my own. I discovered I had tons of ideas for new, different, easy to make, yet beautiful bags. That's when I began building my own patterns and constructing purses of my design. It has been so fun and exciting to see an idea, some fabric and thread come together to create a one-of-a-kind purse.
While I spend most of my time creating purses (and working of course!), I also enjoy quilting and recently have picked up knitting. My mom and I have had such a great time working, crafting and creating together. I am so happy to have this website as an opportunity to share our creative adventures with you!
ABOUT NANCY:
I was a CPA in a former life. When my family moved to Moscow, Russia in 2003, I decided to explore my creative side. I had always enjoyed being a "crafter," and enjoyed making things from wreaths to painted sweatshirts for my family. I took a quilting course from Robin Stilwell, also a trailing spouse in Moscow, and found that I loved it! I started making quilts, quilts and more quilts! I also began sewing other things - pajama bottoms, bags and totes. Recently, I even began knitting!
Nalasa Designs is a dream come true! To actually work with my daughter, and to share the creative process with her is a real joy in my life!
